CENTUM CS3000 R3
Yokogawa released CENTUM CS 3000 R3 in 1998 as the first Windows-based production control system under our brand. For over 10 years of continuous developments and enhancements, CENTUM CS 3000 R3 is equipped with functions to make it a matured system. With over 7600 systems sold worldwide, it is a field-proven system with 99.99999% of availability.
CENTUM CS 3000 R3 features an open architecture, flexibility, and compatibility with existing systems. It can be seamlessly connected with the previous CENTUM systems, as well as it is easily upgraded into CENTUM VP system which was released in 2008.
Yokogawa guarantees the long-term support and supply of CENTUM CS 3000 R3 systems so that our customers will enjoy the optimized use of the asset.
Application of Windows Technology
With Windows Remote Desktop capability, plant operation, monitoring, and engineering can be performed from a personal computer in your office or at a remote field location without any additional software.
Remote Operation and Monitoring
The same HIS displays in the control room can be shown on the PC in your office. For production facilities in remote locations around the world, remote operation and monitoring can be simply structured.
The engineering work for modification can be performed remotely via a network, eliminating the need for dispatching engineers and reducing both maintenance and engineering cost.
CENTUM CS 3000 can be applied from a small to large scale production control systems. Since it was released in 1998, we kept adding and enhancing its functions continuously. CENTUM CS 3000 has established an absolute integrity with Yokogawa’s ProSafe-RS safety instrumented systems released in February 2005, contributing to the plant safety.
Human Interface Station (HIS)
HIS is a human machine interface for CENTUM CS 3000 R3 and it is available in enclosed display style, open display style, and desktop style.
Engineering Station (ENG)
Engineering station is a PC with engineering capabilities used for system configuration and system maintenance.
Field Control Station (FCS)
Field control station is the control unit for plant process control. Varying with the application capacities and application usages, there are several types of field control stations in the lineup.
Safety Control Station (SCS)
Safety control station is a controller of the ProSafe-RS TÜV SIL3 certified safety instrumented system and it can be configured on the same network with CENTUM CS 3000 enabling HIS to monitor status of ProSafe-RS.
Varieties of Fieldnetwork I/O (FIO) are available in compact sizes to convert process signals for FCS formats. The FIO first appeared in the market in 2001 and kept enhancing its functions and adding its varieties ever since. The same technology is inherited to CENTUM VP, the latest Yokogawa DCS. Remote I/O are for remote input and output that passes the field signals to FCS control unit via remote buses.
Bus converter (BCV)
Bus converters are required if a system contains multiple domains or contains the legacy CENTUM project.
System Integration OPC Station (SIOS)
SIOS serves as a gateway for connecting CENTUM CS 3000 R3 system and the OPC server to the third-party PCS. It exchanges data, and acquires alarms and events through the OPC server.
Control Network (Vnet/IP)
A real-time control network for linking the stations such as FCS, HIS, and BCV. Click Vnet/IP for more information.
Field Digital Network
Yokogawa controllers are designed for controlling and monitoring industrial plants which must keep running non-stop in stabilized status with high reliabilities.
Field Control Station (FCS)
A cabinet type and a rack-mount type of FCS are available from Yokogawa. Both Vnet/IP and V net control networks can be used for configuring the system networks. The dual-redundant design of the FCS processor modules, power supply, I/O modules, and I/O networks achieve high availability of 99.99999%. The pair & spare architecture is unique to Yokogawa that improves the stability of process control.

Fieldnetwork I/O (FIO)
Yokogawa offers compact, cost-effective, and reliable I/O devices, targeted as the industrial standard.
In order to operate and monitor the subsystems of the auxiliary devices controlled by programmable logic controller (PLC), various types of analyzers and other instruments for the integrated plant automation, FCS subsystem communication capability enables connection with the subsystems, and also supports dual-redundant configuration.
The subsystems include Mitsubishi MELSEC, Allen Bradley PLC-5 and SLC500, Modbus compatible devices, Siemens SIMATIC, Omron SYSMAC, Yokogawa FA-M3, Darwin, and DAQSTATION and so on.
Achilles Level 1+ Robustness against Cyber Attack
Yokogawa has received Achilles Level 1 + certification for various Vnet/IP controllers.
What is Achilles Certification?
Achilles Certification Program is to provide a benchmark for the deployment of secure industrial devices. It is designed to assess the network robustness of industrial devices and certify that they meet a comprehensive set of requirements and conformance.
Human Machine Interface
Human Interface Station (HIS)
Operators access production control system via CENTUM CS 3000’s human interface station (HIS) to make fast and intelligent decisions that maximize performance and minimize risks.
Based on the ergonomic design concept, the HIS can be selectable from desk top, open display style console, and enclosed display style console types. Multiple monitors can be set, and each one of the monitor displays multiple operation windows.
Dedicated Operation Keyboard
The operation keyboard is unique to Yokogawa. It consists of alphanumeric keys and special operation keys which are assembled with the dustproof and drip-proof flat keys. By assigning graphics to each button, operators can call up a graphic by one touch.
One-second data refresh on windows
The data displayed on HIS are collected in the manner of event driven, i.e., HIS starts to collect the data only when the corresponding window is called up. Thus only the dynamic data in the currently displayed windows need to be refreshed. The load of HIS for data sampling is reduced and the one-second refresh rate for the dynamic data on the windows is guaranteed.
Multiple Monitor Support
The HIS supports the use of multiple monitors, meaning that more windows can be displayed at the same time and enabling process variations and even alarms to be handled more promptly. This ability to display increased amounts of data at the operator console improves operation efficiency. CENTUM CS 3000 R3 supports up to four monitors which can be stacked vertically or positioned side by side and a mouse can move over those four screens. A large-size monitor can also be use
Inheriting the same operation window designs from the legacy CENTUM systems, operators may feel familiar to the CENTUM CS 3000 operation windows from the first day they start using the system.
The Multiple-window mode like an office PC and the Full-screen mode like the legacy operator console are available for operation and monitoring environment.
The process control industry standard open interface OPC (OLE for Process Control, or open productivity & connectivity) is provided for collecting the process data, trend data and messages.
To prevent operation errors and other problems and ensure the safety of the system, such as prohibiting operations by unauthorized persons, limiting the ranges of operation and monitoring, and restricting operator actions to the system, extensive security functions are applied.
Yokogawa has provided more than 200 types of function blocks to satisfy the requirements for various process control applications in continuous and batch process control systems. Other than standard function blocks, alarm management software, plant information management software, and other solution-based packages are available to enable efficient plant operations.
Consolidated Alarm Management Software – CAMS for HIS
The number and variety of alarms and events handled in the plant are increasing substantially as plant operations become more complex. CAMS for HIS helps rationalize alarms with the aim of preventing alarm flooding. Sorting/filtering, eclipsing, shelving, and load shedding functions help operators to reach the important alarms that require immediate attention and actions. CAMS for HIS also prioritize and suppress alarms by referring to the EEMUA No. 191 industry standards and ISA-18.2 guidelines.
CS Batch 3000 is an ISA-88-based total batch process operation and management package that embodies Yokogawa’s decades of experience in batch control. CS Batch 3000 provides simple operation and productive engineering for complex batch control. The package can also be easily linked to supervisory scheduling systems and information systems.
FDA: 21 CFR Part 11 Compliant Package
21 CFR Part 11 is a regulation stipulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States. With 21 CFR Part 11, the FDA defines the criteria for determining which electronic records and electronic signatures may be considered the equivalent of conventional paper documents. In a control system, the functionality for complying 21 CFR Part 11 consists of Access Control and Audit Trail.
Access Control (User Authentication)
Protecting the system and data from illegal access. Complete user authentication by applying specific restrictions to each user.
Operation records (When, Who, What, Where, Why, How) are automatically recorded.
The 21 CFR Part 11 compliance activities carried out with the CENTUM CS 3000 R3 are categorized according to the following groups: operators, instrumentation engineers, and recipe engineers.
Plant Asset Management
Plant Resource Manager (PRM) is a software tool that performs plant asset management (PAM) to manage plant asset information online. PRM allows extensive status supervision of plant facilities remotely from the central control room and performs device operations such as parameters changes, device maintenance, and diagnosis. PRM’s diagnostic functions detect early signs of performance deterioration enabling preventive maintenance of the plant assets. It helps reduce the maintenance cost and contributes to improve operation efficiency.
Solution-based Software Packages
Yokogawa offers a series of solution-based packages that are to improve operational efficiency and product quality. All these software packages work seamlessly in association with CENTUM CS 3000 R3.
A commercially off-the-shelf general-purpose PC can be used as an engineering workstation. The engineering works can be done in similar manners as operations for other Windows applications.
Data Exchange with other Windows Applications
Data can be easily exchanged with other generic Windows applications such as Microsoft Excel. Data can be exchanged not only by using copy and paste via a clipboard; the data of a whole file can also be exchanged.
For productive engineering, concurrent engineering by multiple PCs on a single system database can be performed. Exclusive access control to each database avoids duplicate modification.
Virtual Test Function
A virtual FCS can be prepared on a PC. Both the control functions in FCS and operation and monitoring on HMI can be tested with the test environment. This enables debugging without FCS hardware, and partial application testing to reduce engineering lead-time dramatically. For system expansion and modification, the application can be tested and confirmed without any impact on the plant.
FCS applications can be changed without having to stop the FCS, and there is no impact on other control functions other than the portion being modified. Accordingly, the application changes are also reflected in HIS.
Interface with Intergraph’s SmartPlant® Instrumentation
CENTUM CS 3000 has a bi-directional interface with SmartPlant® Instrumentation, a solution by Intergraph PP&M which helps EPCs execute projects with high efficiency and design quality. It helps reduce engineering time and work as well as input errors by importing and exporting the engineering data between SmartPlant® Instrumentation and CENTUM CS 3000.
Field Digital Solutions
CENTUM CS 3000 R3 supports FOUNDATION™ fieldbus, HART, PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, Modbus, Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP and ISA100 wireless. The CENTUM CS 3000 R3 integratedly controls and monitors these field devices from various vendors with various communication protocols.

Applying fieldbus in plant control system
The engineering for fieldbus function blocks can be performed in the same way as for other function blocks in FCS. The operation and monitoring environment is also the same for the fieldbus function blocks and other FCS function blocks. No additional requirements for engineering, operation and monitoring of the fieldbus applications in Yokogawa DCS.

The most favorable merit for applying fieldbus is highly efficient maintenance of field devices. Yokogawa offers an asset management software package, Plant Resource Manager (PRM), for device management and diagnosis. With PRM, the advantage of fieldbus can be optimized so as to make the maintenance of the whole system more efficient.
The maintenance information of devices are collected by PRM via fieldbuses and stored in the PRM database. The corresponding maintenance schedules, maintenance procedures and spare parts information are also stored accordingly in the same database. The maintenance of the field devices can be performed through fieldbus. Thus the maintenance engineers are considerably relieved from going to the fields of the devices in the remote areas and hazardous areas.
Audit trail management is important in both control and maintenance systems. All maintenance works on devices, which are maintained by PRM, are recorded and stored, and can be easily retrieved too.
By integrated management of device management information, the replacement cycle of devices and trend of device troubles can be predicted. This technique minimizes the impact of device problems on plant operation, and maintenance work and parts procurement can also be planned and scheduled.
Solutions to Non-Fieldbus Devices
PRM can create a database for legacy devices in addition to fieldbus devices. Maintenance information is recorded and managed in a database for integrated, overall planned maintenance of all devices in the plant.
Yokogawa is committed to providing security measures for our CENTUM CS 3000 system, which is certified by a third-party organization to prove its robustness against cyber attacks that targets industrial automation systems.
Having a security system established for once is not enough to prevent cyber attacks, and the security measures must be maintained and kept enhancing. Yokogawa’s product security policy and standard are the basis of our system security and we keep striving for the best to prevent customers systems without stopping.
Achilles Level 1+ Robustness Against Cyber Attack
Yokogawa has received Achilles Level 1 + certification for three different Vnet/IP controllers, the AFV10D, AVR10D and SSC50D. The testing was conducted in February 2007 by Wurldtech Security Inc. in Vancouver, Canada.
The basic security policy for a production control system is to have multiple security layers to protect it against cyber attack. The Achilles Level 1 + tests were conducted because it is very important to ensure the end-point security of the controllers.
Tests were performed using the Achilles Assurance Platform and involved a variety of Ethernet and TCP/IP level and Vnet/IP protocol level cyber attacks. More than thirty million different patterns of vulnerability tests were run directly on the controllers to verify that they were secure.
In these tests, a denial-of-service(DoS) attack was launched after the test platform searched the controller information. While the DoS attack continued, at a certain level, various test patterns were run. The platform also confirmed via OPC communication whether the controllers were functioning normally during the attacks.
Yokogawa proudly announces that the controllers listed above passed all the tests without the assistance of external resources such as firewalls.
